How can you test the presence of the following
a) Hydrogen , b)oxygen , c)Carbon dioxide gases ?
Answers
Answer:
hey
a) presence of hydrogen can be indicated by pop sound.when burning candle brought near soap solution of H2SO4
C) Presence of C02 can be determined by passing through lime water..it turns milky due to formation of Caco3
Explanation:
Hydrogen by flame test. burns with pale blue flame when pure and with pop sound when premixed with air.
Oxygen also flame test. It rekindles a growing splinter.
Carbon dioxide is mixed with lime water. It turns limewater milky. But in excess quantity it returns to normal colour. Since sulphur dioxide also turns lime water milky, you need to make sure that carbon dioxide is tested on filter paper dipped in acidified Potassium dichromate or potassium dichromate because Carbon dioxide has no affect on them, on the other hand Sulphur dioxide changes thier colours.
