How carbon will attain noble gas configuration

carbon has four electrons in its outermost shell, so in order to attain noble gas configuration it must either gain or lose 4 electrons. Now to gain 4 electrons a large amount of energy is required which is very difficult ( almost impossible) and no atom would give 4 electrons as the ionisation enthalpy will keep on increasing with loss of electron. Hence none of the case is possible.
