It affects the dignity of the lower caste and it gives pride to the higher caste persons...

Positive:It helps the downtrodden in the society for their upliftment and helps to raise issues like discrimination against people of lower case and also they equal representation in politics
Negative:politicians divide people on the basis of caste.
Large scale discrimination
Got economical and education related benefits much later.
