how Coke is helpful in extraction of the metal

coke works as a reducing agent. It is resposible for converting metal oxides into metal by reducing.

Coke is a cheap reducing agent which reduces the metal oxide into metal.
ZnO+C------->Zn+CO.
So it helps in reducing the metals middle of the reactivity series.
