Q: How can nature become one's teacher?

This question has a “philosophical” as well as “experimental” answer.

A word of caution: philosophical does not mean unpractical. It only means that there are “guidelines’ or “principles” those can be applied to a multitude of situations. So obviously, that makes philosophy quite practical. For example, Nature is all about exchange. Give and take. The Sun gives and gives. Life on Earth takes the Sun’s energy and puts it into a massive exchange cycle. Nature’s food cycle is that. So too, one should ensure that one willingly gives and takes in order to lead a happy and pleasant life — where money is just one of the tools of exchange on this path.

This path is available to everyone without exception. It is only a matter of choosing when to start.

Experimental is more focused towards problem-solving. One could observe Nature, and try and understand how it has solved some problems that we face. For example, designing a better swimsuit for lesser water resistance by observing how fast-moving fish or birds are designed. One could observe how Nature creates bio-degradable or non-toxic materials what today our technology has not managed to do. One could get into research for designing experiments, making observations, careful analysis, and conclusions. Instead of actually doing such research, one could use such research for designing new products which could be used effectively in day-to-day life.

This path would usually take the form of defining your career and area of work. But it is not limited to that. It could also take the form of art and culture.

Everyone you meet can be your teacher, not just Nature. Simply because everyone you meet IS part of Nature! So, keep an eye out and learn!

How one applies what he/she learns, is unique and is all about the creative use of one’s mind. The mind is a fantastic tool created by Nature, a tool that is aware of itself.
