How could one change in a DNA nucleotide alter the formation of the translated protein? An example would be the difference between normal and sickel cell hemoglobin

actually DNA is a carrier of characteristics thus a simple alteration in DNA may change a whole characteristics trait ...
so in socks shaped haemoglobin and normal haemoglobin there is change in the genetic material that is DNA which changes the organism...
