The astrologer has no lightning of his own but depends on lights from nearby shops. The astrologer relies on the fact, or hope, that his client will not be able to recognize him in order to make specify statements about the man's past. He begins saying :- "You were left for dead."

The astrologer could tell the client about his past life because it was the astrologer himself who had tried to kill him.

  • The astrologer recognised the client as Guru Nayak, but since he was sitting in the dark, Guru Nayak didn't recognise the astrologer.
  • During his younger days, the astrologer had, in a bout of drunkenness and a fit of rage, stabbed Guru and thrown him into a well.
  • So, the astrologer knew the most unpleasant details of the client's life.
