How could the Crusades change a serfs’ life?

The Crusades were full of looting. Even the peasants and serfs, the lowliest in rank in Crusader culture and the bulk of the army, could get rich if they got lucky.

Lets say you, a poor peasant who joined this Crusade for a chance at something better, just defeated a small band of Turks, and you and your comrades hurry to loot their camp, your adrenaline still pumping from the fight.
