The modern periodic table is based on increasing order of atomic number. This removed the various anomalies such as:

1. Anomalous pairs of elements and position of isotopes in the Mendeleev table.

2. Modern periodic table relates the position of elements to their electronic configuration whereas Mendeleev's table is silent about electronic configuration.

3. Modern periodic table provides clear separation of different kinds of elements such as:

i. Active metals

ii. Non metals

iii. Transition metals

iv. Metalloids

v. Lanthanoides

vi. Actinoides

vii. Inert gases.

4. The modern periodic table clearly explained the variations in properties of elements which is not possible in case of Mendeleev periodic table.
