How could you distinguish sodium chloride from sodium iodide?

1. heating sodium iodide i believe perhaps results in purple fumes...? 
2. sodium iodide wouldn't taste like our common household salt .

Two other tests which can be used to distinguish between sodium chloride and sodium iodide are given below. Reaction with concentrated sulfuric acid: Concentrated sulfuric acid cannot oxidize chloride, but it can oxidize iodide to iodine. Layer test: Chlorine (Cl2) can oxidize iodide to iodine(I2).
