If there is any formula d=b-a/n+1 where a and b are the first and last terms of an AP, then what does n indicate here?

A general AP can be represented as:

a , a+d , a+2d….., a+md.......(1)

Where following representation is used:

a : first term

d: common Difference

m : Total terms- 1

Now as given

a is the FIRST TERM

b is the LAST TERM

So b= a + md...... (as compared with (1))

Now,

d=(b - a)/m

The given expression is

d= (b-a)/n+1

Now comparing the 2 eqns. We get

m=n+1

This implies that n is the TOTAL NUMBER OF TERMS IN THE AP.

Hope this helps…..✌
