Answer:

Shepherd – Sheep Relationship (Ref. John 10:11-18)

The foundation of the hope that we proclaim was on Jesus’ death and resurrection on the cross to save us from our sins. As much as a sheep is dependent on its shepherd so are we on Jesus. Because of what He did, we have full access to God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness.

But God’s gift of reconciliation despite our rebellion is just the beginning of His great plan for our lives.

God also wants us to take part of what He is doing to redeem the world. As believers of Jesus, we are no longer slaves to sin but servants of God’s Kingdom created to do good works for the glory of our heavenly Master.

As we seek God’s heart while faithfully obeying His commands, we enter another kind of relationship with Him that is more personal.

friendsFriendship (Ref. John 15:15)

This is when Jesus reveals more revelations to us like a friend sharing his secrets. We are no longer just His sheep or servant. We are also His friends acting as “partners” who co-labors with what He is doing for the world.

father-childFather – Child Relationship (Ref. 1 John 3:1, Romans 8:17)

God also called us as His children, co-heirs with Christ, deeply loved and cared for by a heavenly Father in the most personal way that no one in this world can offer. We revere God as a God who is just and powerful yet we know that we can rest in His presence like a daughter or son would in the lap of their Father.

The level of trust and belief is deeper in this relationship with God. But then, do not stop yet. There is a deeper level of relationship with God after this.

5. marriageGroom – Bride Relationship (Ref. Revelation 21:1-4)

Jesus is the Groom and we are His bride. This is the most intimate level of relationship with God. Closer than being a Father to us, He is the Lover of our soul. Life is filled with joy as we see it as a preparation for something bigger that is about to come – a grand wedding day where our Bridegroom, the Lover of our soul who made us radiant by all means (Ephesians 5:25-27) will see us as a beautiful bride, pure and blameless (Song of Solomon 4:7).
