On the 30th of January 1933, the leader of the NSDAP, Adolf Hitler (link in Czech), was appointed Chancellor of the Reich by German President Paul von Hindenburg. Few people (including those who had allowed him and the NSDAP to come to power) realised that day to what barbarity the country might be led by its new leader. Although the NSDAP had only three of the nine ministers in the new government, as soon as they came to power Hitler and those loyal to him set about dismantling the democratic parliamentary system of the Weimar republic.

Asuming we're talking about 1933:

April 10th and November 6th 1932: Adolf Hitler's party, the NSDAP, which had openly anti-democratic ambitions and plans, won the largest share of votes in two general elections.

January 30th 1933: Conservative politicians decide to support Hitler as head of government, hoping to use his popular support to maintain their own power.

February 28th 1933: the Reichstag Fire Decree suspends many civil liberties, enabling the Nazis to imprison political enemies at will and ban all newspapers that did not support them.

March 24th 1933: the Enabling Act gave the Nazi government the power to enact lws without going through the parliament. Even worse, it explicitly allowed those laws to break the constitution.

Step 4 was Game Over for democracy, pretty obviously.

Hope it helps dear :)
