The election system in our society gives the minority the right to seek to become the majority . This right is what gives the people 'supreme authority'. This checks the majority from becoming dictatorial and from being permanent. It makes the majority realise that ensuring the rights of the minority is in their self- interest since they would need the same rights when they become the minority .
