  • Shadrach Minkins was a Virginia "fugitve African-American slave" who fled to Boston in the year1850. He was also known for his pseudonyms Frederick Wilkins and Frederick Jenkins after being arrested by US marshals under the "Fugitive Slave Act of 1850". In Boston he was released from the trial courtroom.  by the " Boston Vigilance Committee members"  qnd then he released and hid him and helped him get there via the U-Bahn. Minkins settled there, raising a family in Montreal. Two men in Boston were charged for aiding him to escape, but  later they were acquitted by the jury.
  • In 1850, at the age of 33, he escaped from slavery and became a waiter in Boston of Massachusetts. Later that year the Congress passed the Fugitive Slave Act which enabled federal agents to capture & return to their owners  residing in free states escaped slaves The enforcement of this federal law needed cooperation by law enforcement in all States. On 15th February 1851 he was arrested by United States Marshall who posed as customers at Minkins' Cornhill Coffee House Taft.
