After being promoted to the rank of Admiral in 1941, Admiral Chester Nimitz successfully directed the destruction of key, enemy held stations in the Pacific. His forces also destroyed the Japanese fleet based at Philippines.

Japan which was inflicted crushing losses in the Pacific, were almost neutralised and the balance of power tilted in favour of the United States forces, under Admiral Chester Nimitz.

Chester Nimitz (1885 – 1966) played a key role as Commander-in-Chief during World War II, overseeing the areas in the Pacific Ocean.
