They used bacteriophage and labelled them with radioactive isotopes of sulfur and phosphorus. The differently labelled phages were introduced to bacterial populations. After this the bacterial DNAs were inspected and only the radio-labelled phosphorus could be traced in the bacterial DNA. This is because the phage DNA containing radio-labelled phosphorus got incorporated into the bacterial DNA when the phage attacked the bacteria. This concluded that DNA is the genetic material.

Answer:
They concluded that the DNA is the genetic material when the generation of phases that were produced by the bacteria also contained the radioactive DNA.
