He recited the story of the voyage and how he killed the albatross for the sake of timely pleasure alone, to people he got a hold of , like the wedding guest. When he repeats the story to each person he experiences the guilt and repentance each time. Thus he was torturing himself by saying the story. When the story was over, he got peace of mind and hence got salvation.
