The Mauryan Empire was big in it’s extend. Hence the empire divided the empire into three distinct parts.

They are

  • Provincial government
  • District government
  • Villages

Provincial Government: The entire Mauryan empire will be under the control of the emperor but a prince or any other members of the Royal Family will take the administration duty of a province.

District Government: District governments are right next to the provincial government and the empire will appoint some person to be its Pradeshika (District head).

Villages: villages will come under the control of districts where the Gramins will be chosen as the head of the village.

When the Mauryan government was established it can be said that a new form of government was in fact established in the world.

It is with the establishment of the Mauryan empire that we get to see the triumph of monarchy over the tribal republics in the political system.

At the helm of th epower was the king who created the lawsIt was Kautilya who advised the king to practise dharma which was based on the different stages of life.
