Babur had a desire to create his empire in the INDIA.. During that time, the Indo-Gangetic Plain of the northern Indian Subcontinent was ruled by Ibrahim Lodi of the Afghan Lodi dynasty and Rajputana was ruled by a Hindu Rajput under the leadership of Rana Sanga of Mewar. As depicted in Baburnama (autobiography written by Babur himself) Daulat Khan Lodi invited him to invade Delhi which was under the rule of Ibrahim Lodi ,again in 1524 Daulat Khan Lodi who rebelled against the Lodhi dynasty, invited Babur to overthrow Ibrahim . Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi at the First Battle of Panipat in 1526 CE and laid the foundation of the Mughal empire. However, he again faced stiff opposition, this time from Rana Sanga of Mewar and Medini Rai,another Rajput ruler in the battle of Chanderi . The Rana was punished in the Battle of Khanwa.
