Answer:

After 1871, the region of tensions in Europe was the Balkans.

As Balkan states gained independence from the Ottoman Empire, many other European powers started occupying them. This made this region very conflicting. Major European powers like Russia, Britain, Germany and Austria-Hungary started fighting with each other for expanding their own imperialism over this region. Trade, colonies, naval and military powers were some of the major factors which all the European powers were struggling for. They were all very keen on controlling the hold of the other powers and extending their own. This led to a series of wars and finally World War I (1914-1918).
