Balkans was the reason for the first world war, because of following reasons:-

1).A large part of Balkans was under the control of Ottoman Empire, but the weakening of Ottoman Empire And The Spread Of ideas of romantic nationalism this region became exclusive.
2. One by one, the Ottoman Empire European Nationalities broke away from its control and declared Independence. 3. As this Slavic Nationalities struggled to define their identity and Independence the Balkan area became an area of intense conflict.
4. The Balkan States where extremely jealous of each other and is hoped to gain territory at the expense of the Other.
5. The matters were complicated because this was the period of intense rivalry among the European powers over the trade and the colonies as well as naval and military power.

A. Balkans was a region of geographical and ethical variations comprising modern day Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Greece, Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro whose inhabitants were known as slaves.
