The Revolt of 1857 as called by the Indian Historians or The Sepoy Mutiny as named by the British.
This revolt began in Barackpur in West Bengal. When the Indian sepoys got to know about the use of cow and pig fat in the new enfield rifle, they opposed to use it.
The British on knowing this took back the rifle but it was too late as the damage was already done.
Mangal Pandey was the main name that was a threat for the Britishers as he became the leader for the sepoys against the British. He was hung to death after he killed a British official in fit of anger due to Enfield rifle.
After this incident the Revolt of 1857 caught fire and spread throughour India.
