How did behrman play a major role in saving jhonsy in last leaf

Behrman had stayed up all night in the rain to draw a leaf to encourage jhonsy.  She believed that she will go with the last leaf. To remove here this childish thinking he made the same Ivy leaf which was his masterpiece.  But later he got pneumonia and he died. But he played a major role in saving jhonsy 's life by drawing that last leaf to encourage her.
