In the Second World War 1939–45, France, the Soviet Union the U.S. joined Britain as the main Allied powers. Britain was no longer a military or economic superpower, as seen in the Suez Crisis of 1956. Britain no longer had the wealth to maintain an empire, so it granted independence to almost all its possessions.

Answer:

Italy was divided into seven princely states in which one was Sardinia Piedmont which was under the Italian princely house .during 1830s , Giuseppe Mazzini had sought to put together a coherent programme for a unitary Italian republic .the failure of revolutionary uprisings both in 1831 and 1848 meant that the mantle now fell on Sardinia Piedmont under its ruler king victor Emmanuel -2 to unify Italy .later chief minister cavour who led the movement to unify the region was neither democrat nor a revolutionary .

Through the tactful diplomatic alliance with France engineered by cavour succeeded in winning in defeating the Australian forces in1859.

under the leadership of Giuseppe Garibaldi joined the fray .in 1860 the marched into south Italy and the kingdom of two siciles and succeeded in winning the support of the local peasants in order to drive out the Spanish rulers .in 1861 victor Emmanuel 2 was proclaimed as king of Italy .
