The decline of Mughal power coincided with a gradual increase in power and prestige of the English East India Company.The British had initially entered India as a trading company. Gradually it drove away all the other European competitors and established it's monopoly in India.They soon acquired political power and transformed from a trading company to the rulers of India

The Britain's presence in India all began with trade. Men combined military prowess with a ruthless ambition, and became wealthy. Power acme with the wealth. the traders than took control of India's huge swaths. India became of of  Britain's most important colony for raw materials such as cotton and tea. After helping East India Company take control of India, British than took full and direct  control of the country.
