The british rule make the condition worse for peasants by -
The peasant had to pay a very high revenue and could be evicted if they failed to do so...
The zamindars were not intrested in investing money to improve the productivity of the land . So, while production declined , the revenue demands of zamindar went up . To pay the revenue , the peasant was often forced to borrow money from the moneylenders .
Once in debt , the peasant found it difficult to get out from it..
