A case against Gandhi was initiated for disregarding government orders. The spontaneous demonstration of thousands of peasants baffled the officials. The judge was requested to postpone the trial. Gandhi refused to furnish bail. The judge released him without bail. Several days later Gandhi received an official letter. The case against him had been dropped. Thus, civil disobedience had triumphed.

Civil Disobedience Movement was Gandhiji's potent weapon that he used to assert the independent spirit of Indians and negates the power of the British . It triumphed on every occasion during this visit to Champaran .

On his arrival , he was given a tumultupus welcome by thousands of peasants defying the British law. The British, in turn ,served a notice to Gandhiji to quit Champaran which was returned by him with a remark that he would disobey it. Consequently he was ordered to appear in the court. The crowds of peasants that thronged the court house were unmanageable and the helpless officials had to see Gandhiji helps to regulate them. Sensing public outrage , the magistrate had to adjourn the hours and Gandhiji was demanded to furnish bail which he refused. This disobedience won once again and then magistrate was forced to release Gandhiji without bail. After a few days , the case was finally dropped by late Governor himself tacitly establishing the triumph of civil disobedience .
