Answer:

The main purpose of the British colonialism was to expand trade in India. Indian crafts and industry dominated the Indian market when the British came to India. The disadvantage of the Indian crafts was that they were hand-made and were time-consuming. This made them expensive. So what Britishers did was they brought textiles from outside which was cheap and at the same time good in quality. When the demand for such clothes increased, they gradually established textile industries with advanced machines. The production of such clothes required less hard work and time. All this led to the shutdown of textile industries and the end of Indian crafts.
