Corporal Turnbull was a short tempered man, he couldnt allow interruption in between his important lectures (lecture on Gradates) . As we know that in the story 'The Man who knew too much'. Private Quelch (the protagonist of the story) wanted to flaunt his knowledge by interrupting Corporal Turnbull (correcting him). He interrupted corporal Turnbull during his lecture, this ignited the fire. Corporal Turnbull was filled with anger, he saw the attitude of private Quelch and thought to punish him, as a result Private Quelch was assigned permanent cook house duties but there too Private Quelch started flaunting his knowledge which was not good. Thus, due to his attitude and indiscipline private Quelch was unsuccessful to make his dream (to achieve a good rank in army) come true.
