Jeng certainly raised the pegple' expectation. In November 1978, the

people of Beijing and other cities started organising demonstrations demanding more and more reforms. This prompted the government to ban marches. To counter this, the people started building "democracy walls" all over China where people pasted anonymous posters and graffiti demanding a wide range of human rights. Chairman Mao, dead for some years, was constantly denigrated and lampooned on there walls.
