The reconstruction process is the rebuilding of the USA, especially in the south, where after the civil war physical devastation was tremendous.

Explanation:

  • Lincoln, the then President thought that leniency should be given to the southern states. He felt that the Southern states had never actually left the Union. He wanted to mend the nation's wound rapidly and did not want to punish the South. but  sadly, Lincoln was killed even before  he could put his reconstruction plan in place.
  • The radical republicans tried to keep the members of the confederacy from returning back to power following the civil war, to make the republican party a powerful organization in the south, and to assist & aid African Americans achieve a equal playing field in ensuring that their rights to vote in the south would be secured.
  • After Lincoln's assassination, the next then President Andrew Johnson carried out a reconstruction plan, which gave the White Southerners freedom to control the transition from slavery to liberty and did not offer the Black people role in Southern politics. President Andrew Johnson forgave all white South people except wealthy farmers & Confederate leaders (although most of them were later pardoned) and allowed them to setup new governments
