Answer:

The Portuguese discovery of the sea route to India was the first recorded trip made directly from Europe to India via the Cape of Good Hope, in the Atlantic Ocean. It was undertaken under the command of Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama during the reign of King Manuel I in 1495–1499

The discovery by Western countries of the sea route to India is one of the most important events of the modern era. India's wealth became an attraction. Europeans made attempts to locate a sea route to India to promote trade with India. Vasco da Gama explored the sea route in 1498 as he arrived in Calicut, now in Kerala, after cruising through Cape of God Hope.

Explanation:

  • In Age of Colonization, colonial India became a part of the Indian subcontinent under European imperial powers. By conquest and trade, in particular in spices,  European exerted their power
  • Trading rivalries amongst the seafaring European powers ledtp other  European powers  coming to India. The Dutch Republic, Denmark-Norway France, and England  and all had established trading posts in India in the early seventeenth century.
  • With the fall of the Mughal empire in the early 18th century and the collapse of the Maratha empire after the 3rd Panipat war, several comparatively small and fragile Indian states that emerged , through dependent Indian rulers, increasingly became open to European exploitation.
  • At the end of the 18th century Britain and France struggled for control, partially through Indian proxy leaders but also through overt military action. The defeat of Tipu Sultan, the great Indian emperor of 1799, reduced the French's influnence. Throughout the early 19th century, the British influence spread quickly across most of the Indian subcontinent. By the mid-century, British control over almost all of India was absolute or indirect
