When Helen was six years old,her parents were worried for her education. They took Helen to the famous scientist Alexander Graham Bell for advice on how to go about for her teaching. Graham Bell advised them to contact the Perkins Institution for the Blind, which they did.

When Helen met Dr.Bell,she felt the tenderness and sympathy which made Dr.Bell very dear to so many Hearts.His achievement in the field of science were extraordinary.Helen while sitting on her knees,touched his watch and she was very glad when she knew that he could understand his sign language.Helen had spent many happy days with him at Washington and at his home listening about his experiments. Bell had a humorous and poetic side to his nature.He could present even the most difficult theories in a simple and interesting way to make the listeners take interest in them.He was very fond of children.He was never so happy when he was in the company of deaf children.His works for the deaf will be remembered forever.Dr.Bel was deeply committed to the education of the hearing impaired.He founded the Volta Bureaufor the deaf. It was he who opened the door for Helen which removed darkness and brought,love in her life. Dr. Bell remained a good friend of Helen throughout his life.
