Dr. Kemp come to know that somebody was in his room because of his habitual keen observance. Working late, he felt he was thirsty. As he went downstairs to pour himself a drink, he noticed a dark spot on the linoleum. He wanted to be sure what that spot was. While returning to his work, he touched the spot and found out the spot to be a drying blood. As he was about to reenter his room, he found the blood on door handle also.
Inside the room, he looked around to see if anyone was there, then he found some blood spots on the bed sheet and a little farther, the bed clothing was depressed, as if someone was sitting on it.
Earlier, when he had heard the three shots near Jolly Cricketers, he was wondering which idiots were letting off revolvers.
Dr. Kemp heard the voice of a new person in his room, whom he was not acquainted with.
That invisible man called Dr Kemp by his name.
At the same time kemp noticed some blood on the floor as well as on the door-handle of his room.
The voice and the tinge of blood on the room-floor were the ways Dr Kemp could feel that someone was there in the room.
