Fritz Pfeller shared the room with Anne. She referred to him as 'Dussel', in her diary, it means 'idiot' or 'donkey' in German. He was slow to learn the rules to be followed in the annex. It would ask everything twice. He would keep saying 'shh' 'shh', at night also he would say that, it seemed that he did not want to allow Anne even to turn over. When he got gifts for his birthday he showed them off for three days like a kid. He made Anne furious specially on Sundays, when he switched on the light at the crack of dawn to exercise for ten minutes.
