Actually EIC was only came for trading.
But the diwan of bengal doesn't allowed them to trade free.
So britishers thought that of they rule over bengal (from where they trade)then they would became diwan and can trade free.
Like this they got the power passed on EIC

EIC became powerful and an imperial power because of the fights between the rulers of diff. states . These rulers took help of britishers to defeat other rulers. they did not come to know that EIC was thinking to capture India.
