the decision of Dr Edward Jenner to setup his medical practice in country in country yard i.e in a village which saved mankind by eradicating some diseases after the discovery of vaccines...he keenly observed that the milkmaids who developed cowpox,a less serious disease ,did not develop the deadly small pox.he thought they are developing immunity which is preventing small pox,a very dangerous disease wiping out millions of people in those days.in 1796,Jenner took the fluid from a cowpox pustule on a dairymaid's hand and inoculated a 8 years old boy with his parents permission.six weeks later,he exposed the boy to small pox ,and the boy did not develop any symptoms of small pox.this invention of small pox vaccine saved millions of people from deadly disease.

Edward Jenner observed that the milkmaids weren't affected by small pox. He found out that pus in the blisters which they received from cowpox protected them from small pox.
He tested his hypothesis on 14th May 1796 by inoculating a kid of his gardener. He scraped the pus from cowpox blisters on hands of a milkmaid who had caught cowpox. Jenner inoculated Phipps in both arms that day, subsequently producing in Phipps a fever and some uneasiness, but no full-blown infection. Later he immunised the kid.No disease affected the boy, he was immunised again and showed no sign of infection.
He tested his hypothesis on 23 other cases and it worked effectively. Hence , the smallpox vaccine was discovered.
