He said to his history teacher Mr.Brawn because according to Albert theory for education learning facts is not important but knowing the cause of it is more important just like date of battle of prussians at waterloo or how many soldiers were killed is not important according to Albert but why they were killing each other is more important.
Basically what it means is:
In history, the reason why one learns history is not to make the same mistakes that his/her ancestors made but to do something better and wonderful than them.

Einstein explained to the history teacher that it's not the facts that matter but idea by saying that he is not interested in learning the dates of the battles but learning and trying to understand why the battles were fought.
EXPLANATION:
- This is a reference to a chapter where the childhood of Albert Einstein is discussed, and we are made to see what made him so, different from the rest of us.
- It so happens that the history teacher of Einstein, Mr. Brawn was teaching them about the Prussian War and was telling them to memorize the dates of war.
- But, Albert said to him that he would rather be interested in knowing the reason why the forces of Prussia were fighting.
- Here, Einstein emphasized that it is not the facts that should be taught in the schools, and we should not be memorizing it blindly, but instead, we should focus on learning the ideas.
