Explanation:

How did Firoz Shah promote education and learning during the Sultanate period?

=> Sultan Mahmud, notorious as destroyer of schools and temples; was a great patron of learning and a staunch friend of learned men. The promotion of education was an object of great concern to him. His mental qualities were very high. He encouraged liberally the men of letters. The court of Ghazni was adorned by a galaxy of literary stars from different parts of Asia. Al Biruni, Utbi, Ansari and Firdousi received Mahmud’s patronage.

His zeal for education was not only confined to the mere support of learned men but also to the establishment of permanent institutions of learning. At Ghazni, he founded an university in a magnificent building with a vast collection of curious books in various languages. It also contained a museum of natural curiosities. He spent liberally for the maintenance of the students and the teachers.
