Its main objective was to limit the power of Monarch.

The powers instead of being concentrated in the hands of the Monarch were separated and divided between the Legislative, the Executive and Judiciary.

The constitution also stated that it was the responsibility of the state to protect each citizen's natural rights.

In this way, France becomes a constitutional Monarchy.
