However, Napoleon rose to power during Republican France's wars with other nations, and eventually seized the government in a coup in 1804, creating the First French Empire.

In 1792, the Emperor of France was dethroned and executed by his pupil. Thereafter, France became a republic. However, the First Republic was an unstable politics that met domestic insurrections and foreign aggression. Moreover, the beginning of the reign of terror witnessed mass slaughter and nationwide violence. This situation and the First Republic was put an end by Napoleon Bonaparte, First Consul and the later French Emperor.
