french society organized the 18th century was divided into three estates
i) the first estate - It comprised of the clergy and richer members. they exempted from paying taxes to the state.
ii) the second estate - they were the aristocrats and landlords. They were considered above law and exempted from paying taxes.
iii) the third estate - This comprised the peasants, artisans, workers etc. All such people had no political rights.they had to pay many kinds of taxes like tithes to the church by peasants and a direct tax.
