When the peasants of Motihari came to know Mahatma Gandhi was in trouble on account of the British authorities, a large number of them assembled near the court. Their spontaneous demonstration, in thousands, around the courthouse baffled the British.
The officials felt powerless without Gandhi’s cooperation. He helped them regulate the crowd. He was polite and friendly. This demonstration proved the British could not do whatever they liked.
