But they simply imagined a sort of pleasure in emitting clouds of smoke from their mouths.

Gandhi's uncle had the habit of smoking, and when thy saw him smoking, they decided to copy him. In that time of child Gandhi ji had no money to purchase a cigarette for smoking. So he and his relative fellow began to collect stubs of cigarettes thrown away by his uncle.

The stubs of cigarette was not always available and could not emit much smoke either so both of them got an idea. They began to steal coins from the servant’s pocket money so that they can purchase cigarettes. On the other hand they started the stalks of some plant as a cigarette.

Hey there,

Gandhi Ji gave up in the idea of committing suicide because he was a man of wisdom and critical thinking. He did partially go through with the idea of it but in time realized that committing suicide is a sin and they cannot go back.

It was his better judgement that made him come to the conclusion that running away from the situation is not a solution to any problem. Instead they should stay and face the problem with courage and dignity and come above it.

This thought gave them inspiration to lose the idea of suicide and stay alive and face his problems,

Thanks
