Gandhiji proposed the non cooperation movement to begin with surrender of titles.

Gandhiji asked the educated people to surrender honorary titles given by the British government and boycott of civil services.

Gandhiji realized that the British was able to survive in India only because they were receiving cooperation from the Indians.

However, if the Indians boycotted their rules, awards and other policies, then the British would not able to survive for more than a year.

The movement was launched against the Rowlatt act and Jallianwallah Bagh incident.

To bring the nation under one umbrella, that is, cooperation of Hindu and Muslims, he emerged the Khilafat movement with the non-cooperation movement.
