The importance of  Gavaskar's family in his becoming a good cricketer was immense. Gavaskar has mentioned many times that cricket was in his blood. He told so because his father (Shri Manohar Gavaskar) was a good club cricketer.During his child hood, he used to discuss know hows of game with his father. The advice and motivation of his father is invaluable for development of his cricketing career.  Gavaskar's mother (Smt. Meenal Gavaskar) harnessed his obsession with cricket. She supported him by playing with him with tennis ball. They used to play daily match in their small house apartment. Once he even hurt his mother's nose with a straight drive. The most significant influence on Gavaskar's was of his uncle. His uncle Shri Madhav Mantri played for India in four official test matches. He was a successful cricketer in first class games. Once Gavaskar asked his uncle for his pullover of his country. The reply was " One has to sweat and earn India Colors and he should work hard to earn the distinction". This sentence make Gavaskar understood that their are not shortcuts to the top.

So we can understand the family of Gavaskar significantly contributed towards his mindset for becoming a successful cricketer. He was constantly motivated and encouraged by his family members, and through their support he become a good cricketer.
