Gulliver won over the emperor, his retinue, the army, and common men alike by showing clemency to six ringleaders who were trying to annoy and hurt Gulliver by shooting arrows at him. On the orders of the colonel on guard, these ringleaders were caught and handed over to Gulliver to be punished by him as he thought proper. But Gulliver, instead of punishing them, set them free. This magnanimous act of kindness won everyone's hearts, including the emperor. After that he helped them in many ways. The Lilliputians started considering him their friend.

Gradually Gulliver became friendly with Lilliputian due to his ingenuity and goodness of behavior. He used his prudence initially and didn't harm any Lilliputians though it was very easy for him. He laid without any protest and showed them that he was harmless. When Lilliputians frisked him, he gave all the things they wanted to confiscate without any objection. He also performed feats for them and became a source of amusement for them. Due to his gigantic size, as compared to the Lilliputians, he posed a threat to the inhabitants there. So, he agreed to follow the conditions laid by the king and got his freedom. He was always a model of behavior while interacting with the king and he was convinced by good-natured Gulliver.Gulliver also helped the king in capturing a fleet of fifty ships from Blefuscu. Hence, he was no more a threat to the Lilliputians' security.
