After passing out SSC, he wished to go ahead in the field of architecture but was unable to get through any renowned architecture schools because of his low marks. He then met Homi Dallas on the advice of his cousin. Homi Dallas was holding the post of the President of the Indian Institute of Architecture during that period.
Hafeez succeeded in obtaining a seat into cademy of Architecture, Mumbai University on the recommendation of Homi Dallas inspite of the fact that his numbers were poor.
