Helen had very high expectations for herself when she joined Right-Humason School for the Deaf in New York city. She used to speak like the others and worked very hard for it, but she was unable to achieve her goal. She dragged lastically in lip reading and speech. She was very often disappointed with herself due to the mistakes she made in subjects like Arithmetic. Though these limitations weighed down on her she found and interest in physical geography and focused her attention towards mastering it. She spent two years pursuing it and regarded the times spent in studying it with Great delight.
